Chamari Athapaththu got her name on the record books as she became Sri Lanka's first ever women cricketer to smash a century in T20 Internationals. Athapaththu achieved the feat when she scored a ton for Sri Lanka in the first T20 international against Australia but her effort went in vain as Beth Mooney's whirlwind ton was enough for the Aussies to win the game and take a 1-0 lead in the series.

Athapaththu produced a swashbuckling effort with the bat smashing 113 off just 66 balls to help Sri Lanka register their highest total in the format.

Batting first, the Australians got off to a breezy start in the powerplay smashing boundaries at will. Alyssa Healy, an onslaught on the Lankan bowlers by scoring a quick-fire 35 off 18 balls, before getting dismissed off the very next ball. Oshadi Ranasinghe then brought Sri Lanka back into the game with a double strike by getting rid of skipper Meg Lanning in quick succession.

However, a century stand between Mooney and Ashleigh Gardner ensured the Australians were on course to pile up a monumental 217 run total. While Gardner missed her half-century by one run, Mooney went onto register a century that had 20 fours in it.

Brief Scores: Australia-W 4-217 (Mooney 113, Gardner 49, Ranasinghe 2-44) defeat Sri Lanka-W 7-176 (Athapaththu 113, Karunaratne 16, Wareham 2-19) by 41 runs at North Sydney Oval.
