While Canada were featuring in the tournament for the first time, Ireland were ranked 11th in the world heading into this fixture. Yet it was Canada who managed to come out on top to taste their maiden win in the competition. This is the second stunning result in the T20 World Cup 2024 in two days with USA handing a defeat to former champions Pakistan in Dallas in an earlier fixture.

Canada batted first in this encounter at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York and posted 137/7 in their 20 overs, riding on contributions from Player Of The Match Nicholas Kirton (49 off 35), Shreyas Moova (37 off 36) and Pargat Singh (18 off 14). In response, Ireland were in the game until the last over but eventually fell short, managing to post only 125/7, implying a 12-run for the tournament debutants.
