New Delhi: With Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) all set the interview candidates for India’s coaching job on Monday, former cricketer Ravi Shastri will be the front-runner to take over the reins from Anil Kumble.
BCCI received 10 CVs -- Shastri, Virender Sehwag, Tom Moody, Richard Pybus, Dodda Ganesh, Lalchand Rajput, Lance Klusener, Rakesh Sharma (Oman national team coach), Phil Simmons and Upendranath Bramhachari (engineer with no cricketing background).
According to reports, Cricket Advisory Committee consisting of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman will interview 6 of the 10 applications.
As per sources, the six likely candidates are Shastri, Sehwag, Moody, Simmons, Pybus and Rajput.
Former South African all-rounder Lance Klusener may be kept on stand-by but has very little or no chance of getting the job.
Team India are without a coach after legendary spinner Anil Kumble decided to step down as the coach of the national team following a rift with skipper Virat Kohli. Kumble tendered his resignation just before India’s tour of West Indies.
After the Kumble-Kohli saga, the CAC will have to be prudent in its choice as the new coach will work with the Indian team until World Cup 2019.
Shastri, who served as the team director before Anil Kumble taking over the charge, had not initially applied for the top job but BCCI extended the deadline for applications till July 9, and the former cskipper decide to enter the fray and his relation with Virat Kohli makes him favourite to land the job.
