India and England squared off against each other in the first Test of the five-match series. The series opener got underway at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Thursday (January 25). While it was India who would be the happier side at the end of the day's play, in a rather unusual moment in the play, an error from England's wicketkeeper Ben Foakes did produce a few smiles, not only for the players on the field but even the commentators who were on air during the time of its occurrence.

The incident happened after England were bowled out for 246 in the first innings. Then during England's innings, India's captain Rohit Sharma flicked a delivery off Mark Wood on the on side to score his first run. Ollie Pope, who was stationed in the deep, threw the ball at the keeper's end and while Foakes was too attentive to keep his eye on the ball, he did not realise where the stumps and crashed onto the wickets, making for a hilarious sight.

India Dominate Day 1 Of Hyderabad Test

India dominated Day 1 of the Hyderabad Test. While they were asked to field first by the visitors who won the toss, it was the Indian spinners who made India's job easy as they scalped 8 of the 10 England wickets to fall. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja picked 3 wickets apiece while Axar Patel got rid of a couple of English batters. The remaining two wickets, including the one of the England captain Ben Stokes who top-scored with 70 off 88, were taken by Jasprit Bumrah.

In the run chase, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit came out with an attacking approach and stitched a 80-run opening stand off 75 balls. Rohit fell to Jack Leach but Jaiswal and Shubman Gill ensured that no further damage is caused in the day as India finished Day 1 at 119/1, trailing England by 127 runs but having 9 wickets in their kitty.
