New Delhi: Renegades got the better of Stars in a rain curtailed Melbourne derby at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground.
The capacity crowd for the New Year’s derby was in for a surprise when Renegades mystery spinner Sunil Narine walked out to open the batting with captain Aaron Finch. The move clicked instantly as Narine started off with a couple of Boundaries. He stitched together a fine 38-run partnership with Finch to give a flying start to the Renegades.
After a couple of quick wickets, Cameron White then held the innings together with a well paced knock of 64 to guide Renegades to 171 at the end of 20 overs.
In reply, Stars got off to a torrid start when their previous match hero Glenn Maxwell was bowled for 1 by part-time off-spinner Tom Cooper on the first over.

Luke Wright and David Hussey steadied the ship before rain interrupted play, leaving the Stars still requiring 122 runs in 14 overs.
The game was reduced to 18 overs when play resumed and Stars had a revised target of 159 as per D/L method.
Renegades spinner Brad Hogg used his experience to run through the top order of the Stars and ended with match figures of 3 for 22.
As many as three run outs in the sixteenth over did not help their cause and Stars fell short of the target by 7 runs.
