Baroda vs Mumbai, Ranji Trophy: Baroda have stunned defending champions Mumbai in their Round 1 Ranji Trophy 2024-25 faceoff at the Kotambi Stadium, Vadodara to get 6 points from the match. Despite featuring the likes of Ajinkya Rahane, Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer and Shardul Thakur, Mumbai succumbed to an 84-run defeat in this match.


Baroda won the toss and elected to bat first and posted 290 in the first innings with the help of half-centuries from Mitesh Patel and Atit Sheth. The total proved to be enough to take a first innings lead as Mumbai were bowled out for 214. Prithvi Shaw scored 7, captain Rahane made 29 while Shreyas fell for a duck. Only Ayush Mhatre scored a half-century.

In the second innings, Baroda were bowled out for 185. They were 41/6 at one stage before contributions from lower order led by Krunal Pandya's half-century helped them set a target of 262. In the final innings, Mumbai were bowled out for 177. Siddesh Lad scored 59 off 94 while Sheyas scored 30 but Shaw, Rahane and Shadul failed again in the second innings as Baroda registered an emphatic win.

Bhargav Bhatt Adjudged The Player Of The Match


For Baroda, it was Bhargav Bhatt who was adjudged the Player Of The Match. The left-arm spinner scalped 4 wickets in the first innings and returned to scalp 6 wickets in the second to end up with 10 wickets in the match.


A missed opportunity for some of the players who have represented India can cost them a chance of a possible comeback as Indian selectors are eyeing for promising players ahead of India's tour of Australia where the Men in Blue are likely to travel with a mega-squad.
