A release shared by Cricket Australia has confirmed that the decision was made by Green after consultation with the board's medical team. Green had sustained an initial injury in September in UK.

Green followed the same recovery process as followed by James Pattinson, Jason Behrendorff, Ben Dwarshuis, New Zealand pacers Shane Bond and Matt Henry which required having screws and a titanium cable fused into the lower back. The process is done to provide stability to the stress fracture and acts as a precautionary measure as well.
