One of Australia's legendary wicket-keeper who held the record for most dismissals in his time passed away at the age of 74 following a heart attack last week.
Rod Marsh is survived by his wife Ros and children Dan, Paul & Jamie.
Marsh played for Australia from 1970 to 1984 where he had 355 dismissals against his name in 96 Test matches. He also has 3600+ runs in Test cricket. Rod Marsh's partnership with Denis Lillee was a fruitful one for Australia. "Caught Marsh, Bowled Lillee" was a common occurrence as it happened 95 times making it (Marsh-Lillee combo) one of the famous and lethal bowler-wicket keeper combinations.
Both Marsh and Lille retired in 1984.
After cricket, Marsh was associated with the administration of Australian cricket. He was the head of Australian Cricket Academy in Adelaide where he worked with next-generation players like Ricky Ponting and played a significant role in creating one of the most dominant teams in the history of cricket.
He was the head of Australia's selection panel between 2014 and 2016. Rod Marsh is also a member of the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame, and the ICC Hall of Fame. He has also received the Order of the British Empire in 1981 for his services to cricket.
Australian players who will play the first Test against Pakistan on Friday will take the field wearing black armbands in respect of their legendary wicket-keeper batsman.
"Rod was a colossal figure in Australian cricket who gave close to 50 years of incredible service," said current Test skipper Pat Cummins on Cricket Australia. He said that the team will today wear black armbands in the first Test against Pakistan as a tribute
