Australia have announced the 16-player squad for the upcoming ODI series against India. Pat Cummins has been named as the skipper of the side. The Kangaroos will be taking part in the ODI series between March 17 and 22 in a preparation for the World Cup later this year. The matches will be taking place in Mumbai, Visakhapatnam, and Chennai.
Star all-rounder Maxwell, who broke his leg and underwent surgery in November has proved his fitness by returning to action for Victoria in the Sheffield Shield this week.
"Glenn, Mitchell and Jhye are all important players in what we think the squad might look like come October," selection chief George Bailey said.
Josh Hazlewood has not been added after he returned home early with an Achilles' injury. "It would be great for Josh to be part of this series but we have taken a conservative view ahead of a very important winter in England of which he will be an integral part," Bailey said.
"With the World Cup just over seven months away, these matches in India are an important step in our preparation."
Earlier, Australian skipper Pat Cummins will be returning home because of personal reasons. The third Test match will be taking place on March 1 which clearly shows that there is a gap of 10 days between the second and third Test.
According to a Newscorp report, Cummins will travel to Sydney to attend to a family illness. However, Cummins will come back to India in a couple of days to take part in the third Test.
