The Netherlands women’s cricket team has received a huge blow in the ongoing ICC Women’s World T20 Qualifier 2018. Right-arm medium pacer Robine Rijke has been suspended from bowling in international cricket with immediate effect after her bowling action was found ‘illegal’.

The Event Panel of the ongoing tournament confirmed the development. Earlier on Saturday, the match officials reported Rijke’s actions after the game against United Arab Emirates, which the Netherlands lost by six wickets on Saturday.

Following the ICC’s Article 3.6.2 for Illegal Bowling Regulations, Rijke’s bowling action was filmed in Netherlands’ next match against Bangladesh. The video footage was then submitted to the Event Panel including Mark King and Richard Done, for further analysis.

After reviewing the recordings, the panel concluded that the 21-year-old pacer has employed an illegal bowling action. Hence, in following Article 6.7, she got suspended from bowling in international cricket with immediate effect.

On the other hand, Rijke has the right to appeal for an assessment of her bowling action at an ICC approved Testing Center. If the result comes in her favour, she may return with the bowl. Till then her suspension remains in place.

The Netherlands’ will next play Papua New Guinea at the VRA Cricket Ground in Amstelveen on Tuesday.
