Messi may extend his contract with Spanish football club Barcelona for another five years.  The star footballer can stay with this club despite a 50 percent cut in his salary.

Messi, who is Barcelona's all-time top scorer, made his debut for this club in 2004. His contract expired in June this year.  Ever since Joan Laporta took over as the club's president, efforts have been made to lower the wage bill, so that Messi can stay with the club and also comply with La Liga's strict financial control rules.
