Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham: The Indian contingent's strong performance in the Commonwealth Games 2022 continues. India on Sunday bagged its second gold medal in boxing. Boxer Amit Panghal, after a disappointing outing in the Tokyo Olympics, won a gold in the men's 51kg flyweight category. Amit defeated England's Kieran MacDonald 5-0 in a one-sided match. This is Amit Panghal's first gold in Commonwealth Games. He was defeated in the final match of the light flyweight category in the 2018 Gold Coast Games.  


Fans had high hopes of a gold medal win for Panghal as he had won a medal in the World Championship and gold in Asian Games. India expected gold from Amit Panghal in the Commonwealth Games 2022 and he ensured to not disappoint his fans.


Neetu Ghanghas wins gold in CWG debut 


Neetu Ghanghas, who entered the Commonwealth Games for the first time, scripted history by winning the gold medal. She defeated Demi Jade of England in the 48 kg category. Neetu's gold medal came when the Indian women's hockey team just won the bronze medal, and star shuttler PV Sindhu raised hopes of another gold by reaching the finals in badminton.


Indian women win bronze in hockey at CWG 2022


After a heartbreaking loss against Australia in the controversial semi-final, captain Savita Poonia's stellar performance helped Indian women's hockey team overcome the "stopwatch controversy" to clinch a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022 by defeating defending champions New Zealand 2-1 in a shoot-out on Sunday. 


This is the first medal for the Indian women's hockey team in the Commonwealth Games in 16 years. The Indian team was leading 1-0 in the final moments of the match but in less than 30 seconds, they gave a penalty corner to the opposition team.  It was converted into a penalty stroke as Olivia Marie equalized New Zealand after which the match was drawn into a shoot-out.
