New Delhi: Legendary Indian leg-spinner Anil Kumble, fondly known as 'Jumbo', on February 7, 1999 entered history books as he finished with exceptional figures of 10/74 from 26.3 overs and helped India register a iconic win by 212 runs against Pakistan at the Feroz Shah Kotla, now known as the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium. After India lost the first Test against Pakistan by just 12 runs at Chennai, Kumble produced a magical spell in a must-win game against arch-rivals Pakistan and attained magnificent bowling figures of 10/74 at the Feroz Shah Kotla ground in Delhi in 1999. During the second Test of the two-match series, Kumble picked up all 10 wickets and became only the second bowler in world cricket after England's Jim Laker to claim all wickets in an innings. Kumble ended a stellar two-decade long international career as India’s leading wicket-taker in both Test and one day cricket. With a whooping 619 wickets under his kitty, Kumble ended as the third-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket behind Shane Warne (708) and Muttiah Muralitharan (800). Kumble also holds the record for the most five wicket hauls (35) in Test for India. He was arguably the greatest match winner with the red cherry for India on home soil under the captaincy of Mohammad Azharuddin and Sourav Ganguly. In June 2016, he was appointed as the head coach of the Indian men's team by BCCI for a period of one year, but resigned due to "untenable" differences with captain Virat Kohli.
