New Delhi: The Indian cricket team is all set to get a new head coach after the T20 World Cup. As per a report in PTI, Sourav Ganguly-led BCCI might approach Anil Kumble and VVS Laxman to apply for team India's head coach position once Ravi Shastri completes his tenure after the T20 World Cup.

Anil Kumble once was the Indian cricket team's head coach between 2016-17. At that time, the Cricket Advisory Committee headed by Sachin Tendulkar, Laxman and Ganguly had appointed him in place of Ravi Shastri. However, due to his fallout with skipper Virat Kohli, Kumble had tendered his resignation after Pakistan defeated India in the Champions Trophy final.

However, these are mere speculations as it is still unclear whether Anil Kumble will say yes to become team India's head coach or not. A senior BCCI source, on condition of anonymity, told PTI, "Anil Kumble's exit needs course correction. The manner in which CoA succumbed to the pressure of Kohli and removed him, wasn't the best example set. However it also depends on whether Kumble or Laxman are ready to apply for the job."

Many media reports have suggested that Ravi Shastri will submit his resignation after his contract as team India's head coach ends post the T20 World Cup. After the T20 World Cup, team India is slated to tour South Africa and BCCI wanted Shastri to extend his contract till the tour gets over but the former India player has reportedly refused to extend his contract as coach. Therefore, after the World Cup, India will have a new head coach.

In the Indian Premier League, Anil Kumble is currently working with franchise Punjab Kings as the head coach. In 2017, Anil Kumble had resigned as team India's head coach, revealing that Kohli did not like his way of working.
