New Delhi: India achieved great success on Saturday in the 57 kg men's weight category of the Asian Wrestling Championships in Mongolia. Indian wrestler Ravi Dahiya comprehensively defeated Kazakhstan's Kalzhan Rakhat 12-2 in the final match of the 57kg category to win a gold medal at the Asian Championships.

The Tokyo Olympic Silver medalist won his third successive gold medal in the Asian Wrestling Championships. He also became the first-ever Indian freestyle wrestler to win a hat-trick of Asian Championship gold medals.






Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Ravi Dahiya was seen lagging initially in all his matches in the tournament, but every time he made a strong comeback to conquer his opponent.


In the final match, the Kazakhstan wrestler initially took the lead on Ravi. After this, he started defending his lead by playing defensively. However, Ravi intensified his attacking game and took 6 consecutive points one after the other to beat his opponent 12-2. 


Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia misses out on winning gold medal


Another hope of India in the Asian Wrestling Championship was Bajrang Punia, but he lost the final match in the 65 kg weight category. Punia was defeated by Iran's Rahman 3-1.  He had to be content with the silver medal.
