Holashtak 2025 Dates:

As per the Hindu calendar, Holashtak in 2025 will begin on March 7 (Falgun Shukla Ashtami) and will conclude on March 13, the day of Holika Dahan. These eight days hold special significance, particularly in North India and Punjab. The festival of Rangwali Holi will be celebrated on March 14, 2025.

Why Is Holashtak Considered Inauspicious?

According to Hindu mythology, during these eight days, Hiranyakashipu tortured his son, devotee Prahlad, to force him to abandon his devotion to Lord Vishnu. However, Prahlad remained steadfast in his prayers. To protect him, Lord Vishnu incarnated as Narasimha and killed Hiranyakashipu.

It is believed that during Holashtak, the planetary positions become aggressive, and performing auspicious activities during this period does not yield positive results. Therefore, ceremonies like weddings, housewarming, and purchasing property or vehicles are avoided. However, prayers and religious observances during Holashtak are considered highly beneficial.

When Will The Holika Danda Be Installed In 2025?

The installation of the Holika Danda (a symbolic wooden pole) takes place during Holashtak. This pole represents devotee Prahlad and his aunt Holika. Around this danda, wood and other materials are gathered, which are set ablaze on Holika Dahan night.

Holashtak is a significant time for charity and fasting. Donating clothes, food, and money during these days is believed to bring relief from hardships and attract positive blessings.
