Ahoi Ashtami 2024: Every year, Ahoi Ashtami is observed on the eighth day of the dark fortnight in the month of Kartik for the sake of children. The day of Ahoi Ashtami falls four days after Karwa Chauth and eight days before Diwali Puja. The term 'Ahoi' also signifies turning the impossible into possible and protecting oneself from unpleasant misfortunes.

Ahoi Ashtami will be observed today, on Thursday, October 24, 2024. The day is also known as Ahoi Aathen, as the fast is performed on the eighth date of the lunar month, which is the eighth day. On this day, both Goddess Ahoi and Goddess Siyahi are worshipped.

How Is The Ahoi Ashtami Fast Observed?


Mothers observe a fast from dawn until dusk for the well-being of their sons. Similar to Karwa Chauth, Ahoi Ashtami is also a day of strict fasting, with many women refraining from water throughout the day. The fast is broken only after sighting the stars in the sky.

Ahoi Ashtami Puja Vidhi



  • On Ahoi Ashtami, devotees should take a bath before sunrise and vow to observe a waterless fast.

  • In the evening, lay a red cloth on the prayer platform and draw the image of Ahoi Mata and her seven sons on a white paper with geru and place it there.

  • To the right of the image of the goddess, establish a pot filled with water on a small mound of wheat.

  • After performing the pot worship, conduct a complete puja of Ahoi Mata with the sixteen offerings (Shodashopachar). Offer the goddess roli, akshat, sindoor, water chestnuts, and flowers.

  • On this day, Ahoi Mata is offered milk and rice along with eight sweet pue, a type of pancake and puri.

  • Now, pray for the fulfillment of the desire for which you are observing the fast and chant the mantra "Om Umadevyai Namah" 108 times. Finally, perform the aarti and offer arghya (water) to the stars.
