The semi-finals now come with an added safeguard against rain, incorporating a reserve day. However, if rain persists and prevents the minimum overs needed for a result-oriented match on the reserve day, the rule dictates that the team with a higher standing on the league stage points table will advance to the final.

Following this guideline, in the event of a washout in IND vs NZ semifinal, India would advance to ODI World Cup 2023 final. Likewise, if the semifinal between South Africa and Australia results in a washout, the team finishing as No. 2 on the points table would proceed to the final.

South Africa are currently second in points table with 14 points, and Australia are third with 12 points. If Australia defeat Bangladesh by a significant margin in their last league match, surpassing South Africa's net run rate, they will move to the second position, potentially affecting a washed-out semi-final scenario between the two teams on November 16 in Kolkata.

Pakistan remains mathematically in contention for the last semi-final spot, but they are confronted with nearly impossible challenges in their final league match against England.

Pakistan would need to secure a victory by an extraordinary margin to surpass New Zealand's net run rate, grab the remaining final 4th position in ICC Cricket World Cup semifinal.
