The ODI series will begin after the completion of third and final Test match at Delhi on December 6.
The all-rounder will succeed Upul Tharanga, who led to three 5-0 series whitewashes including one to India on home soil.
After Angelo stepped down as Sri Lanka’s captain, the role was distributed and Tharanga took over as the ODI captain while, Chandimal was given the responsibility to lead the Test side.
Thisara Perara has been named as the captain of the ODI side for three-match series against India.
The 28-year-old will also lead the Sri Lankan side for the three-match T20 series.
Following a heavy defeat to Pakistan in the limited-over format last month, the Sri Lankan Cricket board has taken a massive decision before the ODI series against India.
