Rishabh Pant On Brink Of Surpassing MS Dhoni's Two Iconic Test Records
From unforgettable finishes to setting unmatched standards as a wicketkeeper-batsman, Dhoni holds several records that have remained untouched for years.
However, one of Indian cricket’s brightest stars, Rishabh Pant, is now on the verge of surpassing two major Test records held by the legendary Dhoni.
MS Dhoni currently holds the record for scoring the most centuries by an Indian wicketkeeper in Test cricket, with six Test hundreds to his name. Interestingly, Rishabh Pant has equaled that feat and now stands on the cusp of overtaking Dhoni.
If Pant scores even one more century in the ongoing five-match Test series against England, he will become the first Indian wicketkeeper to hit seven Test centuries, setting a new benchmark in the longest format of the game.
Pant isn’t just targeting Dhoni’s century record. He’s also nearing Dhoni’s tally of runs scored as a wicketkeeper in the challenging overseas conditions of Australia, England, South Africa, and New Zealand.
Dhoni amassed 1,731 runs across these four countries during his Test career. Pant currently has 1,681 runs, just 50 runs away from overtaking Dhoni to become the highest run-scoring Indian wicketkeeper in these overseas conditions.
With potentially 10 innings to bat in the five-Test series, Rishabh Pant has a golden opportunity to rewrite Indian wicketkeeping history.
