As per a Dainik Jagran report, with Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah likely to secure spots in the team for T20 World Cup 2024, despite missing the Australia and South Africa series, Virat Kohli might not make the cut.
Despite boasting a strong track record in T20I and the IPL, BCCI seems to be exploring an alternative option for the middle-order position.
Reportedly, a BCCI official informed the publication that Ishan Kishan might be considered for the middle-order position as they seek a player capable of launching an attacking play right from the beginning.
The official also highlighted that performances in IPL 2024 will be taken into account for Virat Kohli.
However, the concern lies in the fact that Virat Kohli primarily opens for his franchise RCB, whereas the available opening slots in the Indian team seem to be already occupied.
The official also emphasised that before arriving at any decision, Virat Kohli will be consulted regarding his future plans.
