5 most expensive players who were dropped mid-way by IPL franchises
The biggest surprise of the IPL auction was the price being paid to Jaydev Unadkat. The left-amrer bought for 11.5 Cr but he was a huge disappointment as he got only 11 wickets in 15 matches compared to his record in the previous campaign, where he got 24 wickets in 12 matches with an impressive economy of 7.02.

The Delhi Daredevils retained Mohammed Shami after the Sunrisers Hyderabad bagged him for 3 Cr. Shami only played 4 games and could get only 3 wickets with an economy rate of 10.40. Shami performance however, cannot be an earmark for his abilities as the speedster was going through personal turmoil, which hampered his preparations ahead of the IPL.
However, Woakes only played 5 matches for the Bangalore side and got only 8 wickets with a huge economy rate of 10.36 and thus was dropped from the side and later left the side in the group stages to have a stint at county cricket.
One of the biggest surprise of the auction was Delhi fast bowler, Navdeep Saini. He was bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for a price of 3 Cr. He looked like a great addition to the side as he had performed exceptionally well in first-class cricket the previous season.
Despite all of these, the 25-year-old was not given a single chance by the Bangalore side despite their dismal bowling performance match after match.
Apart from these players, there were some players who were bought with huge price tags and given enough opportunities but didn't perform at all.
Ben Stokes was the most expensive buy for the second year running with a price of 12.5 Cr but unlike the previous year didn't perform when the team needed him and scored only 196 runs and took only 8 wickets in 13 matches.
Apart from CSK, many teams bought players for a very high price but had to drop these players, as they didn't get the desired results. Here is a list of expensive players, who proved to be a disaster this season.
Manish Pandey was bought with a big price tag of 11 Cr and was given enough opportunities to prove his worth.
Pandey may have played 15 matches for the Sunrisers but he only got 284 runs thus was dropped from the most important matches, the eliminator 2, the match against his former side Kolkata Knight Riders and the final against the eventual champions Chennai Super Kings.
Chris Woakes was bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore with a whopping 7.4 Crores and it looked like a good addition to the squad as Woakes strengthened the weak bowling attack of the Challengers.
Chennai was the oldest team in the league and no one touted them to lift the trophy but consistent performances from the team ensured that the team of ‘daddies’ won the trophy.
IPL 2018 came to a spectacular end as the Chennai Super Kings decimated the Sunrisers Hyderabad to lift the trophy for the third time.
