Every year, January 30 is marked as Martyr's Day or Shaheed Diwas to commemorate the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. He was assassinated in 1948 by Nathuram Godse, in the compound of Birla House in New Delhi, after one of his routine multi-faith prayer meetings.
