Actor-writer Mangal Dhillon passed away on Sunday at a Ludhiana hospital in Punjab. He was 48 years old.

In 1987 he got the role of 'Lubhaya Ram' in Ramesh Sippy`s TV Serial 'Buniyaad', which laid his foundation in the Mumbai film and television industry. After that, he worked in a couple of serials and movies- 'Yugandhar', 'Lakshman Rekha', 'Nishana', 'Vishvaatma', 'Khoon Bhari Mang', 'Azad Desh Ke Ghulam', 'Junoon', 'Panther', 'Ghutan', 'Kismat', and 'Noorjahaan'. Talking about his early life, he had done his early years of schooling in Panj Graayin Kalan Government school and then moved to Uttar Pradesh near his father's farm. Additionally, Mangal graduated from Zila Parishad high school in Nighasan, Lakhimpur Kheri district. (Image Source: Getty)

For his role in television serial Junoon, he had won the RAPA (Radio and Television Advertising Practitioners' Association) award for best actor in 1998 and was also honored with Baba Farid Award by Punjab Government for the film 'Khalsa'. (Image Source: Getty)

Deeply saddend by the demise of the actor, Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Badal tweeted, "Saddened to learn about the demise of noted actor, writer, director and producer of Punjabi cine industry Mr Mangal Dhillon. It’s a big loss to the world of Indian Cinema. His captivating voice and theatrical displays will be missed by many. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends and fans."
