Asha Bhosle started her singing career along with her sister Lata Mangeshkar to support her family.

Asha got married to Lata Mangeshkar's secretary Ganpatrao Bhosle at the age of 16. In an old interview, the singer had revealed that her husband used to earn Rs 100 a month so she also had to shoulder the responsibility of the household with him.

She also revealed she had to leave her one-month-old son behind so she could pursue her singing career as she needed the money.

Asha separated from her husband in 1960, and in 1966, he passed away. Talking about being a single parent, Asha once said in an interview, “You know how a single woman is treated in India, it is terrible. But I crossed through all of that.”

Asha married music composer RD Burman in 1980. For years Pancham Da used to send her flowers anonymously.

In an interview with Quint, the singer narrated the incident, “For years, he’d send me flowers anonymously. One day, the roses were delivered in the presence of Majrooh saab and Pancham. I said, 'Throw them away. Some fool keeps wasting his roses on me.' Pancham’s face fell. That’s when Majrooh saab laughed, 'It’s this fool who’s been sending you the roses'.

Asha also revealed in the interview how their love story started. She said, Yeh mere peechhe pade thhe, Asha tumhara sur bahut achha hai, main tumhari awaaz par fida hoon. Finally, kya karti? Ok, kar diya (He was after me, Asha you have a very good tune, I'm smitten by your voice. Finally what could I do? I said okay).

Not many know that the singer has tried her hands at acting as well. Asha made her acting debut at the age of 79 with the Marathi film 'Mai'.

Asha loves cooking and has revealed many times that if not singer she would have been a cook for sure. She gave wings to this hobby by opening a chain of restaurants in the United Arab Emirates (Dubai and Abu Dhabi), Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Egypt and the United Kingdom.
