A baby born in Uttar Pradesh's Hardoi has baffled everyone including doctors for his appearance. The boy was born with thick, dark hair covering more than half of his body, as seen in photos that has gone viral on social media. The mother gave birth to the boy at the CHC Bawan in Hardoi, according to New York Post.

The newborn was referred to specialist Dr Ikram Hussain, who said that the baby is suffering from a rare medical condition called  the giant congenital melanocytic nevus, a skin condition characterised by an abnormally dark, noncancerous skin patch composed of pigment-producing cells called melanocytes.

The frequency or prevalence is around 1 in 20,000 to 50,000 newborns. It may usually be more than one nevus with others being smaller than the giant one.

The medical condition may cause drying of the skin causing irritation and itching as in dermatitis and can cause non-uniform hair growth over it also called hypertrichosis, reported the Indian Express, citing an expert.

Though the condition is not deadly, the affliction can increase the risk of skin cancer.

It can also cause skin-producing cells to form in brain and spinal tissue, which can result in headaches, vomiting, and brain tumors.

The incident was also reported to Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK), which has decided to send the baby to Lucknow for treatment.

The newborn child and the mother are reported to be healthy.
