New Delhi: Tripura Police arrested three people on Saturday in connection with the alleged attacks on a parliamentary delegation of the Left and the Congress party in the Sepahijala district of the state.
A senior police official said, “Three persons have been arrested so far, and steps are being taken to apprehend the others involved in the attack. An FIR has been filed in connection with the incident,” as quoted by news agency PTI.
Currently, the security forces are deployed in the region with senior officers overseeing the situation.
The fact-finding delegation comprising the Left parties and Congress MPs was on a visit to the regions affected by the post-poll violence on Friday when the members of the team were attacked in Nehalchandranagar village located in Bishalgarh subdivision of the border area, reported PTI.

Meanwhile, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has criticised the heinous attack on the fact-finding teams of opposition MPs and MLAs in Tripura and alleged that "Sangh Parivar Goons" were behind the "heinous" act.
In a tweet last night, Vijayan said, “The heinous attack by Sangh Parivar goons on the fact-finding team of opposition MPs visiting Tripura is highly condemnable. It highlights the need for law and order to be restored in the State. Democratic forces should unite to defeat this reign of terror in Tripura.”

An official in Tripura told PTI that Chief Minister Manik Saha, who is currently in Delhi, spoke to DGP Amitabh Ranjan, and asked him to arrest all the accused persons, “irrespective of their political colours.”
This happened as the joint team of the Left and the Congress was visiting various violence-hit areas of West Tripura, Sepahijala and Khowai on Friday.
As per PTI, senior CPI(M) leader Rakhal Majumder said, “Once the delegation, comprising CPI(M) MP E Karim and Congress MP Abdul Khaliq and AICC general secretary Ajay Kumar, landed at Nehalchandrangar market, they were attacked by miscreants raising slogans of 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai'. One vehicle was severely damaged, while two more cars were also vandalised”.
Earlier this week on Wednesday night, at least 20 shops were burnt in the Nehalchandranga region.
According to the police, no one from a team of eight members was injured in the incident, reported PTI. However, around three vehicles with leaders from the delegation parties on board were left vandalised in the attack.
CPI MP Binoy Viswam said the team will stay till March 12 in the state and it will submit the fact-finding report on the post-poll violence later. The issue will then be raised in the Parliament as the session begins on Monday.
Most of the incidents pertaining to post-poll violence were reported from Sepahijala and Khowai districts in Tripura after the election results were announced earlier this month.
