SC Verdict Put To Rest 'Mischievous Propaganda': Assam CM Hails Judgment On Article 370

Hailing the Supreme Court’s verdict on Article 370 abrogation, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the judgment has set aside the disinformation involving the Union government’s decision

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday while hailing the Supreme Court’s verdict upholding the Central government’s decision to abrogate Article 370 as constitutionally valid in Jammu and Kashmir said that the top court’s judgment has cemented the long-unifying principle of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.’ “The Supreme Court judgment on Article 370 cements the long held unifying principle of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat,” Chief Minister Sarma wrote in a post on microblogging site X.  

Chief Minister Sarma said that the verdict of the apex court has set aside the disinformation involving the Union government’s decision to abrogate Article 370 three years ago. 

“This verdict has put to rest mischievous propaganda and disinformation for the last 3 years,” Chief Minister Sarma said in his post on X.

The Chief Minister urged upon all sections of the society of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh to unify in fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of development and prosperity of the region. 

“It is my earnest appeal that all sections of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh society unite in fulfilling Hon’ble PM’s vision of progress and prosperity in the region,” Chief Minister Sarma added in his post.

Chief Minister Sarma congratulated Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his enormous effort in piloting the abrogation of Article 370. 

“My compliments to Hon’ble HM for his monumental effort in driving the successful abrogation of Article 370 under Hon PM’s decisive leadership and fulfilling the dream of every Bharatiya,” the Chief Minister further said.

Earlier on Monday, a five-judge bench of the Supreme Court said that the Central government’s decision to abrogate Article 370 was constitutionally valid. The apex court’s judgment came four years after Jammu and Kashmir lost its special status.

The top court, however, emphasised that the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir should be restored at the earliest so that elections could be conducted to the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly. The court also directed the Election Commission of India (ECI) to take steps to conduct the Assembly election by September 30, 2024.
