Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a two-day visit to Assam from Saturday. During his visit to the state, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of projects worth Rs 11,000 crore in the state’s capital Guwahati. This Sunday, Prime Minister Modi is set to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for diverse development projects exceeding Rs 11,000 crore during a public event in Guwahati.
In yet another step in this endeavour, one of the key projects for which foundation stone will be laid by Prime Minister Modi includes ‘Maa Kamakhya Divya Pariyojana,’ the Maa Kamakhya access corridor, which has been sanctioned under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North Eastern Region (PM-DevINE) scheme. The Maa Kamakhya access corridor will provide world-class amenities to pilgrims visiting the revered Kamakhya temple atop the Nilachal hills in Guwahati, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) stated in a press release.
Prime Minister Modi will lay the foundation stone of multiple road upgradation projects worth over Rs 3400 crore, under which, 43 roads, including 38 bridges, will be upgraded as part of the South Asia Subregional Economic Cooperation (SASEC) corridor connectivity. The Prime Minister will also inaugurate two four-laning projects, Dolabari to Jamuguri and Biswanath Chariali to Gohpur, projects. These projects will help improve the connectivity to Arunachal Pradesh’s capital Itanagar and boost the overall economic development of the region, the PMO release added.
In addition, with a view to harness the tremendous sports potential of the region, Prime Minister Modi will lay the foundation stone of projects to boost the sports infrastructure in Assam. The projects include an international standard sports stadium at Chandrapur on the outskirts of Guwahati and the upgradation of Guwahati’s Nehru stadium as an International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) standard football stadium. The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for development of infrastructure of the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Guwahati. Moreover, the foundation stone for the development of a medical college in Assam’s Karimganj district will also be laid, the release further stated.
