The Central Bureau Of Investigation (CBI) has taken 10 people into custody over the six FIRs registered by it related to the ethnic violence in Manipur, sources told ABP News. On June 9, the CBI constituted an SIT and re-registered six FIRs.

The violence in Manipur erupted after a rally by the All Tribal Students Union of Manipur (ATSUM) on May 3 in protest against the proposed inclusion of people belonging to the Meitei community in the list of Scheduled Tribes (STs). Over 160 people have died and many more have been injured as a result of the ongoing ethnic violence in Manipur.

The latest Manipur situation flared up after a video of two tribal women from a particular community being paraded naked went viral last week. The issue led to nationwide outrage and also echoed in Parliament.

The Supreme Court also took suo motu cognisance of the matter and directed the Centre and state governments to take action against the perpetrators.

On Thursday, the Centre, in an affidavit, said the CBI would also probe the video incident and asserted that the government had "zero tolerance towards any crimes against women".

The affidavit, filed by the Home Ministry, also urged the apex court to transfer the trial of the case outside Manipur for its completion in a time-bound manner. The Centre requested the SC to pass directions to transfer the probe to a state other than Manipur.

Seven persons have been arrested in the case so far. "They have been booked for various offences including rape and murder," the affidavit further said.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the Manipur issue and said that the Prime Minister is not speaking a word on Manipur because he knows that it's his ideology which has burned Manipur. In a video message, Gandhi said that PM Modi is the prime minister of the selected few people. The former MP called PM Modi "Prime Minister of the RSS".

Gandhi said that people must be surprised as to why the Prime Minister is not going to Manipur. "All of you have seen what has happened in Manipur. All of you must be wondering why PM Modi has not said even a single word on the issue. All of you must have expected that in a situation where a state in the country is burning, the prime minister will definitely say something about it, Gandhi said in the video.
