New Delhi: Four people were shot dead in Bishnupur district as fresh violence erupted in Manipur on Thursday, news agency PTI reported. The incident took place in Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou and the victims included a man and his 60-year-old father.
According to police, around five unidentified miscreants attacked a few labourers while they were tiling the farmland and shot four of them at point-blank range. After the incident, they fled the spot, police added, as reported by PTI.
The deceased have been identified as Ningthoujam Nabadeep (40), Oinam Bamonjao (63), Oinam Manitomba (37) and Thiyam Somen (56). Three BSF personnel also sustained injuries, as per reports.
The incident comes a day after two police commandos were killed and several others were injured after a clash erupted between suspected Kuki militants and security forces in Tengnoupal.

After Thursday’s incident, a total of seven people were killed in separate districts of Manipur. Investigation on the matter is underway, police said, as reported by PTI.
The clash broke out on Wednesday after the suspected Kuki militants fired at the security forces 48 hours after two persons, suspected to be involved in the killing of a police officer in October, were arrested by security forces in the border town, police said, as reported by the news agency.
The deceased have been identified as Wangkhem Somorjit (32) and Takhellambam Saileshwore from Lamshang in Imphal West district. While Saileshwore was shot dead on Wednesday evening, Somorjit succumbed to his injuries during treatment at Key Location Point (KLP) of Assam Rifles.
Among those injured were constable N Bheem (35), who was hit by a bullet in his left leg, and ASI Sidharth Thokchom (35), who sustained bullet injuries on his face and ears. He was later airlifted to Imphal and is undergoing treatment at RIMS.
