The Assam Rifles troops arrived in a Casspir armoured vehicle and positioned it in a manner to give cover to the Manipur cops. They then opened covering fire so that the cops, who were lying on the highway, could get up and move to the vehicle.

The Assam Rifles jawans then shouted out to the Manipur cops to get into the vehicle and they gave them covering fire. At least three police personnel could be seen to have suffered injuries in the ambush in the video. One of them was grievously injured and he appeared to be losing consciousness towards the end of the video. Another seemed to have lost a toe. All the while, bullets could be heard being rained down on the vehicle by the militants.

The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital.

According to NDTV, the Manipur Police team was on its way to Moreh to provide backup to the police after a senior cop was shot dead while he was taking stock of the security arrangements near a helipad construction site. The border town has been witness to major ethnic clashes between the Kukis and Meiteis over the past few months.
