Cannes 2023: 'Anek' Actor Andrea And Filmmaker Kivini Shohe To Represent Nagaland

Andrea shot to fame after making her acting debut in the Bollywood movie 'Anek' starring Ayushmann Khurrana while Kivini Shohe is a well-known filmmaker from Nagaland.

Guwahati: Popular model and actor Carol Andrea Kevichusa, popularly known as Andrea Kevichusa, of 'Anek' fame and prominent filmmaker Kivini Shohe, both hailing from the northeastern state of Nagaland, will represent their state at the 76th annual Cannes Film Festival, 2023, which is going to be held between May 16 and 27 in France.

Andrea and Kivini will be a part of the delegation supported by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, through the Department of Information & Public Relations, Nagaland.

Andrea, 22, shot to fame after making her acting debut in the popular Bollywood movie 'Anek', which released in 2022. She starred alongside Ayushmann Khurrana and bagged the 'Best Female Debut' award in the 68th Filmfare Awards, 2023.

In Anek, written and directed by Anubhav Sinha, Andrea played the role of Aido, a boxer from northeast India. 

After this, there was no looking back for the young model-actress, who has since appeared in several famous magazine covers. Andrea, who hails from Nagaland's Kohima, started her modelling career in 2016, when she was only 15 years.

Andrea has so far worked with several fashion designers, including Sabyasachi Mukherjee. She has also worked for Bollywood actor Katrina Kaif’s cosmetic line 'Kay Beauty'.

Andrea has also featured in editorials of magazines such as Vogue India, Harper's Bazaar, Elle, Femina, Grazia and on the cover of Filmfare.

Kivini Shohe is a well-known filmmaker from Nagaland and is also the founding president of the Film Association of Nagaland (FAN). FAN consists of dynamic film related professionals all of whom are based in the hill-state.

Kivini has been a jury chairperson for the 14th International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala, 2022. She has also been a jury for the 5th South Asian Film Festival, Kolkata, 2022.

Kivini is well known for her award-winning film ‘Oh my Soul’, released in 2014, which is a story of three Naga transgenders. She also received the Governor’s Award in the same year.

Most of Kivini’s documentaries cover untold stories from the far and remote eastern part of Nagaland. Some of her notable works are ‘Under the Longfuru Sky’ (2018) and ‘The Great Anghs’ (2001).

She has also directed short Sumi folk-based stories like ‘Winter Nights dream’ (Nisapa & Nisala) in 2003 and ‘Anishe Flower maiden’ (Anishe Xamunu) in 2007 and ‘Even the Dead Speaks’, a telefilm released in 2019.

Speaking exclusively with ABP Live from Kohima, Kivini Shohe said, "It has come as a surprise for me and it is a great opportunity for learning and exposure in the international arena. I am thankful to the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, and the Department of Information & Public Relations, Nagaland, for giving me this opportunity."

The 76th annual Cannes Film Festival will take place from May 16 to 27 and Swedish filmmaker Ruben Ostlund will serve as the jury president.
