“We were returning from the Doom Dooma weekly market in a goods carrier vehicle when the incident took place. The truck coming from the opposite side suddenly collided with our vehicle. Several people died on the spot while many others were critically injured. We were immediately brought to the hospital. The impact of the accident was such that I can never forget,” an injured person told the media at the Tinsukia Civil Hospital.

The driver of the truck, reportedly coming from Arunachal Pradesh, was allegedly in an inebriated condition when the incident took place.

Earlier in May, seven engineering students of the Assam Engineering College (AEC) were killed in an accident and a high-level committee, headed by retired Justice Rumi Kumari Phukan (retired), was constituted to look into the reason for the accident.
