Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wesnesday shared an old video of him where he can be seen bulldozing hundreds of seized drug bottles himself in Nagaon. He reshared this video to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse.


Taking to X, the Himanta Biswa said that Assam had been waging a war against drugs in a bid to strike at this menace, during which the state recovered drugs worth over Rs 2,100 crore.


Further he also recommitted to continue his war against the drugs and said: "On the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, we recommit ourselves to the larger goal of a Drug-Free Bharat!"


"We remain committed to creating a Drug-Free Assam, where our children are safe from the threat of narcotics and can lead a healthy life," the post read. 






The crushing of bottles by the JCB showcased Assam government's initiative towards making the state and country drug-free. It was done during a programme on 'Seized Drugs Disposal' in Nagaon in July, 2021.


STF Assam, Cachar Police Seize Drugs Worth Rs 4.5 Cr


Earlier today, in a successful anti-narcotics operation, the Assam's Special Task Force and Cachar Police seized drugs worth Rs 4.5 crore. 


"A vehicle was intercepted at Silchar and 900 grams of heroin valued at Rs 4.5 cr was recovered," another post shared by Himanta Biswa stated.


"The heroin was being transported from a neighbouring State and one person has been apprehended in this regard," it added.


He also lauded the Assam police for their efforts and wrote: "Good job Team 
Assam police! Let's continue to take this threat head on and protect our youth."
