Elvis Hazarika will begin his quest with an Elephanta Caves-to-Gateway of India swim in December.
Guwahati: Ace swimmer from Assam Elvis Ali Hazarika, the first person from the Northeast to cross the English Channel both ways, will attempt multiple world records very soon, undertaking various challenges across the globe. The former international swimmer and currently a channel swimmer, Elvis, will undertake several swimming challenges in India, South Africa, and the United States (USA), between December 2023 and August 2024.
Speaking to ABP Live, Elvis Hazarika said, “In my first attempt in December this year, I am going to swim from the Elephanta Caves to the Gateway of India in Maharashtra’s Mumbai. I will also attempt a 1,000-kilometre relay swim from Gujarat via Goa to the Gateway of India.”
“On March 13, 2024, I will swim from Robben Island to Blouberg in South Africa, which will be a solo swim. On March 17, I will again swim from Robben Island to Green Point in South Africa’s Cape Town, which will also be a solo swim,” Elvis added.
A confident Elvis said that after successfully completing these two swimming challenges in South Africa, he would then attempt another swimming challenge in the USA. “In August 2024, I will attempt the Molokai Channel in Hawaii. This swim will be from Molokai Island to Oahu Island, a distance of approximately 42 kilometres. It will be a relay swim,” the ace swimmer said.
Elvis said that he was the youngest swimmer ever at the age of nine and a half years to represent India at the Asia Pacific Swimming Championship held in Singapore in 1991. Elvis was the first swimmer from the northeast to swim across the North Channel in Ireland earlier this year, covering a distance of 41 kilometres. He was also the first swimmer from the region to cover the Indo-Arabian Gateway Mumbai Circle in 2022, covering a distance of 200 kilometres.
