Madhuri, the daughter of YSR Congress Party Rajya Sabha MP Beeda Masthan Rao, allegedly ran over a man with her luxury BMW car in Chennai's Besant Nagar on Monday night. The victim, identified as 21-year-old Surya, a painter, was sleeping on the pavement at the time of the accident. Surya succumbed to his injuries leading to a wave of public outcry.


According to police reports, Madhuri was driving at high speed when the accident occurred. A senior police official confirmed the incident to PTI, saying, "The victim was sleeping on a pavement in Besant Nagar on Monday night, and a luxury car with a woman behind the wheel ran over him, killing him."


Surya was allegedly intoxicated and lying near the pavement when the car, driven by Madhuri and her friend, struck him. Eyewitnesses captured a video showing Madhuri’s friend arguing with locals. In the video, she claimed that they had called for an ambulance to transport Surya to the hospital, according to a report on India Today. 


However, the locals said, Madhuri, along with a female friend who was accompanying her, fled the scene immediately after the accident, Later the police swiftly acted on the complaint filed by Surya's wife. The Adyar Traffic Investigation Wing registered a case under Section 304A of the Indian Penal Code, which pertains to causing death by negligence, a bailable offense. Madhuri was later released on bail.


 Surya's wife Vinitha alleged,"Only 8 months back we got married. Due to the festival he was drinking with friends and slept on a corner of the road, the woman was also drunk, she took U-turn and ran the car over my husband."

"People there were screaming but she didn't listen, how can she not see person sleeping on the road, immediately she hide her car and came to us, without informing us she called an ambulance and said that police complaint is registered. I want Justice , I  am an orphan now since my husband also died," she said.


A senior officer stated, "Based on the complaint of the painter's wife, we have taken necessary actions and are continuing our investigation to gather more details."
