Social media challenges are not new to the netizens. Whether it is the ice-bucket challenge, fitness challenge or Kiki challenge, they have always been there amusing the social media users. The year 2018 also saw netizens going crazy after some insane, risky and whacky challenges.
New Delhi: Over the past couple of years, social media challenges have been on a spike, particularly among the teens. Many times these challenges are dangerous and without understanding the risk involved, the gullible section of teens start doing it. The year 2018 too saw netizens going crazy after some whacky challenges.
Here is a list of challenges that rocked the internet in the outgoing year.
Kiki Challenge: Singer Drake’s song ‘In my feelings’ not only topped the chartbusters this year, but also inspired a viral social media challenge. The song’s lines “Kiki, do you love me?”shot to quick and immense popularity and so Kiki challenge too went viral rapidly, especially among the teenage section. The challenge involved the person taking it to jump out of a slowly moving car and dance to the song along with the moving vehicle while the person behind the steering shot the video. Needless saying, despite the involved risks the challenge went insanely viral transcending geographical boundaries and police all across the world had to issue earning and alerts against the challenge.
Dele Alli: As the craze of Kiki challenge mellowed down a bit, a new social media challenge named Dele Alli Challenge got the netizens hooked. It was made popular by footballer Dele Alli. First, the challenge required creating a finger loop covering an eye, just like the football star did in a viral post. However, the challenge got tough later as the footballer posted an image covering both his eyes using loops made by fingers. It all started since then. The challenge requires people to cover both their eyes like rims of glasses, using an arrangement of fingers of just one hand. The internet went crazy trying to copy Alli, every now and then you would come across a video where people could be seen attempting the challenge.
Mary Poppins: Mary Poppins challenge was yet another risky challenge which required the user to carry out a stunt where one had to jump from an elevated point holding an umbrella with both hands-(the idea was based on the Disney tale of Mary Poppins) and eventually the person ends up getting hurt. It remained popular only in Western countries.
Momo Challenge: It is not at all like any of the entertaining social media challenges, instead it is a fatal internet phenomenon where an account named Momo convinces people to contact it. After this, those who take the challenge receive graphic threats from and are instructed to perform a series of fatal tasks and eventually convince them to commit suicide. This is similar to Blue Whale challenge. The Momo Challenge gained the public's attention in July 2018 when a large number of reports surfaced about teenage students committing suicide because of the game. Nillu Nillu Challenge: Nillu Nillu challenge went viral towards the end of the year on the social media, largely in the south Indian states. The challenge involved people jumping in front of moving vehicles and dancing to a south Indian song from a 2004 film. It is largely performed by a group of people – mostly youngsters – hurdling in front of moving vehicles or people and then dancing to the Nillu Nillu song, carrying for some reason, dried palm leaves in their hands or wearing a helmet. Police also had to issue an alert against this online challenge due to risks involved.View this post on InstagramJust a spoonful of sugar. #marypoppinschallenge #medicinegodown #supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
