The volcano erupted on Friday, 40 kilometers away from Iceland's capital Reykjavík. The surrounding areas were evacuated even before the eruption took place as the authorities had already informed that it could erupt at any time.

After the eruption, locals shared many pictures of it on social media, in which the devastation caused by it can be seen clearly.

The local administration and police personnel asked people to take all necessary precautions and stay away from the area.

At present, there has been no report of loss of life or property due to volcanic eruption. Security personnel are constantly engaged in relief and rescue operations.
