US Elections 2020: As Democrat Presidential candidate Joe Biden inches towards victory and is short of just 6 electoral votes, Biden vowed to act against the pandemic on "day one" if he wins the presidential election in the world's worst-hit nation.

Biden delivered a late-night address with the tone of a president-elect and vowed to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic as new cases Friday hit a new high of more than 127,000 cases.

"We must put the anger -- and the demonization -- behind us. It's time for us to come together as a nation and heal," Biden said in his home city of Wilmington, Delaware accompanied by his running mate, Senator Kamala Harris.

My responsibility as president will be to represent the whole nation: Biden

"My responsibility as president will be to represent the whole nation," he said, drawing a stark contrast with Trump's nearly four years of rule by provocation.

More than 127,000 new infections were reported in the US on Friday, the third straight day of record cases, as votes from the bitterly fought presidential election were still being counted.

No winner has been declared but Biden promised late Friday that he would not waste any time in addressing the pandemic if he is victorious. "I want everyone, everyone to know on day one we're going to put our plan to control this virus into action," the Democrat said.

Unlike Trump who has been vocal about not favoring the lockdown and announcing a release of the Covid vaccine even before the scientists confirmed it,  Biden said he and Harris had already been meeting experts on how to control the "skyrocketing" cases of Covid-19.
