New Delhi: Dozens got burned after an underground pipe exploded near a mosque during Friday evening prayers in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The blast which occurred at the Baitus Salat Jame Mosque at Narayanganj has left many worshippers critically injured. According to a report by Associated Press, at least 37 people were rushed to the burn unit of a state-run hospital in the capital of Dhaka. The report quoted  Samanta Lal Sen, a coordinator of the unit who said that most were in a 'critical condition'.

The blast was so powerful that the impact caused six air conditioners inside the mosque to explode. More details on the incident are still awaited as firefighters are investigating the cause of the explosion.

The country is currently dealing with soaring Covid 19 cases. The data by John Hopkins University shows that the total Covid 19 cases have reached 3,21,615 while the total fatalities caused by the virus on Saturday had reached 4,412. The country is also working on procuring Covid 19 vaccine and recently has made a deal with the Serum Institute of India (SII) to get access to the Covid-19 vaccines. Bangladesh has also agreed for trials of coronavirus vaccine developed by China’s Sinovac Biotech Ltd.
