United Kingdom Prime Minister Rishi Sunak sacked British Home Secretary Suella Braverman amid mounting pressure on him to remove her from the cabinet due to her remarks on pro-Palestine marches in the UK. Braverman had criticised the Metropolitan Police for its handling of pro-Palestinian protests and accused them of bias in handling the same, as reported by the BBC.

This was the second instance when the now-sacked Home Secretary was removed from the post. Earlier, she was forced to resign from former British Prime Minister Liz Truss's cabinet over a controversy pertaining to sending a document from her personal email. Braverman has been embroiled in a number of controversies in the past.

Here Are 5 Big Controversies Of Suella Braverman

Living On Streets A “Lifestyle Choice”

Earlier in November, Braverman sparked controversy after she said that those sleeping on the streets in tents are doing so as a "lifestyle choice". She further stated that the streets can't be taken over by rows of tents occupied by people.

Braverman took to X and said, "The British people are compassionate. We will always support those who are genuinely homeless. But we cannot allow our streets to be taken over by rows of tents occupied by people, many of them from abroad, living on the streets as a lifestyle choice.”

Rwanda ‘Dream’

In October 2022, while Braverman was the UK Home Secretary in former British PM Liz Truss's cabinet, she said that it was her "dream" to watch asylum seekers being deported to Rwanda.

The scheme to deport asylum seekers was devised under former UK PM Boris Johnson. She was filmed saying it was her “dream” to see such flights happen, as per the Guardian.

Sending Official Document From Personal Email ID

Braverman’s tenure as Home Secretary under the Prime Ministership of Lizz Truss was cut short by a controversy pertaining to sending an official document from her personal email id.

She was ordered to resign from the post following a serious breach of ministerial rules where she had sent an official document from her personal email to a fellow MP, as reported by The Guardian. She became the shortest-serving home secretary since 1834.

Asylum Seekers ‘Pretend To Be Gay’

Suella Braverman had dew flak after she said in September this year that asylum seekers lie about their sexuality to get refugee status in the UK.

She had claimed that there were “many instances” where asylum seekers pretended to be homosexual or transgender to “game the system” and get “special treatment”, as reported by The Irish Times.

British-Pakistani Men Part Of Grooming Gangs

Braverman had sparked outrage after she accused British-Pakistani men of being part of grooming gangs. In an interview to Sky News, Braverman said that groups of men, almost all British-Pakistanis, are part of grooming gangs that "pursue, drug, rape, and harm vulnerable English girls".

In April, speaking to Sky News, Braverman said, "What's clear is that what we've seen is a practice whereby vulnerable White English girls, sometimes in care, sometimes in challenging circumstances, are being pursued and raped, drugged, and harmed by gangs of British-Pakistani men who work in child abuse rings or networks."
