US Inauguration 2021: Outgoing US President Donald Trump is considering the possibility of floating a new political party as his White House tenure draws to a close, as per a report by the Wall Street Journal. The report has said that Trump wants to call the new faction the “Patriot Party” if it gets off the ground.

In the report, the WSJ has cited “people familiar with the matter” and said that Trump has talked in recent days with associates about forming a new political party.

It is to be noted that Trump has received criticism from several Republicans following the horrific riots that unfolded at US capitol following his speech. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) on Tuesday said Trump deserved blame for provoking the riot at the Capitol.

Though the report has also stated that it is not yet clear how serious Trump is about starting a new party, it has stated that Trump’s huge base of supporters would be helpful if he tries to start a third party.

Trump whose term will end come to an end on Wednesday afternoon, has said he will not attend the inauguration of Joe Biden.

During his last few days in office, the US witnessed one of the country's worst-ever riots when thousands of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building on January 6.

The attack took place while Congress was in session considering the ratification of the electoral college votes electing Biden as President and Kamala Harris as Vice President. Five people, including a police officer, were killed during the riots.
