New Delhi: On January 20th midday will be Joe Biden’s Inauguration as the 46th president of the United States of America. It will mark the commencement of the four-year term of Joe Biden as president and Kamala Harris as vice president. Since it is happening, during a pandemic, the ceremony was supposed to look very different. This is the first time that the Inauguration ceremony will be this done in a short modified format with really tight security.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Inauguration Ceremony:



  1. Biden’s Inauguration speech is expected to be about 20 minutes in length, four years ago his predecessor Trump’s speech was 15 minutes long. Though he is transfer is more chaotic than most he is likely to address the turmoil but at the same time present an optimistic tone.

  2. Donald Trump, will not be attending the Inauguration ceremony. This is the first time in the history of the United States that predecessor will not be attending the inauguration of the president-elect.

  3. However, Mike Pence will attend the Biden-Harris Inauguration. He was a no-show at president Trump’s farewell ceremony.

  4. Biden, Harris and their spouses, along with former presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton and their wives, will lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery.

  5. The inauguration day is to be held on 20 January, and the opening remarks are usually scheduled around 11:30 EST (16:30 GMT) and Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will be sworn in at midday. After that Biden will shift into the White House later in the day - his home for the next four years.

  6. Since this inauguration is happening in the middle of a pandemic. This will be the first time, the National Mall will be closed. A complete difference from the previous years when as many as 1 million people have gathered between the Lincoln Memorial and the U.S. Capitol to watch the new president be sworn in.

  7. As many as 20,000 different members of the National Guard will be present along with the city’s full police force of 3,700 officers. The security details expected to be exquisite especially after the U.S. Capitol Siege.

  8. Biden had planned to ride the Amtrak train to D.C. for his inauguration, replicating his commute during his decades in the Senate but was advised not to by the FBI and Secret Service after the U.S. Capitol riot.

  9. The inaugural balls and the post-luncheon have both been called off. Though it was initially set to for a modified format but after consulting with Biden’s inaugural planners, the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies canceled it altogether, Bloomberg reported.

  10. However, Lady Gaga will be singing the National Anthem and Jennifer Lopez and Bruce Springsteen will be the musical performance for the day.
