6 Killed, 14 Injured In Russia's Missile Attack On Kharkiv Postal Centre, Ukraine Says
Russia Missile Attack: Ukraine officials have said that six people were killed and 14 others sustained injuries in a Russian missile attack that hit a postal distribution centre in Kharkiv.
At least six people were killed and 14 others sustained injuries in a Russian missile attack that hit a postal distribution centre in the northeastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, Ukrainian officials said, as reported by the news agency Reuters. "Russian missiles hit the Nova Poshta centre—an ordinary civilian object," President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on the Telegram messaging app, as quoted by Reuters.
Zelenskyy posted a video in which a building with windows can be seen blown out and construction materials strewn about, with red trucks with Nova Poshta written in Ukrainian in front of it.
Oleh Synehubov, the governor of the broader Kharkiv region, said that several of the injured were in serious condition in the hospital. Those killed and injured were employees of the postal centre, Synehubov said on Telegram, as Reuters reported. There was no immediate comment from Russia. Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city, was devastated in the early days of Russia's full-scale invasion, which started in February 2022.
Meanwhile, further south in the east, Ukraine has been trying to restrict a new attempt by Russian forces to gain more territory there, amid Kyiv's slow counteroffensive that has continued for months.
On Saturday, Russia’s drive to capture the town of Avdiivka saw fierce resistance, as per the Ukraine military, with defences bolstered by fortifications erected nearly a decade ago, as reported by Reuters. "The enemy is becoming more active but is incurring heavy losses," General Oleksandr Tarnavskyi, commander of Ukraine's troops in the south, said on Telegram, as quoted by Reuters.
Russia's Defence Ministry, in its report, reported strikes on areas outside Bakhmut, a town in the eastern Donetsk region. "We have concrete fortifications... outside the city," military analyst Pavel Norozhnyi told national television, as quoted by Reuters. "(Russian forces) need heavy artillery and anti-tank missiles to destroy every stronghold," Norozhnyi said.
