As soon as the matter was reported to the South Lake Tahoe police department, near the border with Nevada, officers came into swift action. They reached the Safeway store to find that the suspect has also hoarded numerous jewellery pieces from the store.
Chris Fiore, spokesman for the South Lake Tahoe police department, near the border with Nevada, said officers located the suspect, identified as Jennifer Walker. "The suspect licked the jewelry then began to load her cart with merchandise from the store," according to an employee in the store as told to an agency.
The woman was found walking inside the store with a shopping cart full of items, including meat and liquor, which she had no means to purchase.
The 53-year-old woman was arrested for felony vandalism after she was caught by the police. After the arrest, merchandise had to be destroyed for fear of contamination.
In the US at least 431,000 people were found infected while the death toll touched 14,700. A record 1,922 deaths were reported in 24 hours on Wednesday, according to Johns Hopkins.
