New Delhi: Highlighting the contribution of Pakistan in facilitating dialogue between the US and the Taliban, Imran Khan said that Pakistan will do everything within its power to further the peace process in Afghanistan. The talks sponsored by Pakistan between the US and the Taliban will be held in the United Arab Emirates to end the 17-year bloody conflict.


It is the first time that the two parties are meeting talks outside Doha. Previously at two occasions, they have meet in Qatar.

Khan highlighted the role played by Pakistan in holding the talks between the US and the Taliban in Abu Dhabi. He took to Twitter to express his desire for peace to end the sufferings of the people of Afghanistan.

"Pakistan has helped in the dialogue between the Taliban and the US in Abu Dhabi. Let us pray that this leads to peace and ends almost three decades of suffering of the brave Afghan people," Khan said on Twitter

Khan also tweeted "Pakistan will be doing everything within its power to further the peace process".

The Taliban is trying to drive out the international forces in Afghanistan and re-establish their own regime after they were ousted in the year 2001.

During the year 1996-2001 , Pakistan was one among the three nations that recognized the Taliban government during its five-year rule.
