The news article was followed by a Twitter war between Israeli and Pakistan Defence Ministers.
The article which contained ‘fake’ news said, ‘“Israeli Defense Minister: If Pakistan sends ground troops to Syria on any pretext, we will destroy this country with a nuclear attack”.
The story was carried on December 20 on the official website of AWD News.
Staunchly responding to Israel’s warning on Twitter, Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Mohammad Asif sent across a warning message to Israel saying, “Israeli def min threatens nuclear retaliation presuming pak role in Syria against Daesh.Israel forgets Pakistan is a Nuclear state too AH”
After a series of Tweets from Pakistan Defence Minister, a response was sent by Israel Defence Minister calling the original story as “totally fictitious.”
AWD has been identified by fact-checking organizations as a fake news site.
Israel maintains a policy of nuclear ambiguity, neither confirming nor denying the existence of an arsenal. Pakistan became a nuclear power in 1998. The countries have no diplomatic ties.
There was no immediate reaction from Pakistan to Israel's response.
