The iconic Sky Tower in New Zealand's Auckland became the centre of New Year festivities as thousands of people gathered to witness the stunning fireworks lighting up the sky. With this, Auckland became the first major city in the world to welcome 2025.
People in New Zealand also thronged to downtown with many climbing the Auckland's volcanic peaks to get a vantage point of the fireworks in the city, which were held to recognise the indigenous tribes, the Associated Press reported.
The countries in the South Pacific Ocean are the first ones to welcome 2025, with the clock in New Zealand striking 12 midnight almost 18 hours before the iconic ball drop in New York's Time Square.
After Auckland and Sydney in New Zealand, Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra in Australia are set to welcome the New Year. Queensland and Northern Australia will usher in 2025 later.
