Car Crashes Into Gates Of UK PM Rishi Sunak's Downing Street Residence In London: Report
The incident comes days after a 19-year-old Indian-origin man crashed a truck into a security barrier near the White House in the US.
A man was arrested on Thursday after his car crashed into gates of UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's Downing Street residence in central London, Reuters reported. London Police said a man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving even though no one was injured in the incident.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was in his residence at the time of the incident.
"At around 16:20hrs a car collided with the gates of Downing Street on Whitehall. Armed officers arrested a man at the scene on suspicion of criminal damage and dangerous driving. There are no reports of any injuries," police said in a statement.
Authorities said the incident was not being treated as terror related, BBC reported. A witness said he saw police officers pointing tasers at a man, who was held "face to the floor" as he was detained.
Following the incident, cordons and barricades were placed along Whitehall, a main road running past Downing Street where several government departments are based.
A video broadcast by the BBC shows a small white car crashing into the wrought-iron gates of Sunak's 10 Downing Street residence.
Earlier this week, a 19-year-old Indian-origin man was arrested after he crashed a truck into a security barrier near the White House, the residence of US President Joe Biden.
The accused was identified as Sai Varshith Kandula, a resident of Chesterfield, Missouri. After crashing his truck, Kandula started waving a Nazi flag.

No one was injured in the crash and no explosives were found inside the rented vehicle.
During his interrogation, he allegedly told the authorities that he admires Nazis and wanted to "seize power" and "kill the president". Kandula also said Hitler was a "strong leader" and he admired him.
Kandula allegedly planned the attack for six months, with his goal being "get to the White House, seize power, and be put in charge of the nation".
Kandula rented the truck on Monday night immediately after flying from St. Louis to Dulles International Airport on a one-way ticket, a Secret Service agent said in a statement.
